Jazz 625 - The Dave Brubeck Quartet (1964)
BBC4 - 27 March 2009
The BBC billed this as ...
Slim Gaillard introduces the legendary Dave Brubeck Quartet in a restored and re-edited 1964 programme, featuring Paul Desmond on saxophone, Gene Wright on bass, Joe Morello on drums and Brubeck on piano. Songs include Take 5, the first jazz record to sell over one million copies.
Which would make it a reshowing of a 1991 version with an introduction by Slim Gaillard broadcast on 20/08/1991 of the original 1964 programme. But I didn't see any sign of Slim Gaillard, so I think this is a re-edited version of that later broadcast to get back to the original.
But in any case The Dave Brubeck quartet appeared twice on Jazz 625 in 1964 on 25/08/1964 and 28/11/1964 but which performace this was I don't know as the credits recorded by the BFI http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk are the same for both. I suspect the BBC don't know what they have got either.
